Assignment Detail:- Project: Analysis of a Heat Sink
Heat sinks are commonly used to expel unwanted heat- This is in particular common in electronic heat management- If you open a computer -especially high-performance workstations-, you would see a few of these heat sinks-
For this project, you would need to analyse a given heat sink analytically, experimentally, and computationally- The heat sink is that for the experiment provided in the lab- In the experiment, you can set the amount of energy provided to the heat sink and measure the temperatures at various locations of the setup-
You are to complete these components:
1- Analytical Assessment: Determine the outlet temperature analytically-
2- Experimental Assessment: Book a time in the lab to conduct the experiment -Cloud Student will conduct this experiment in the intensive week, on-campus students will be able to conduct this experiment from week 7 onwards-- The lab report to this experiment will be part of your final submission-
3- Computational Assessment: With your knowledge in computational heat transfer, complete a 2D simulation of the heat sink geometry- This includes a mesh independence study and validation-
4- Comparative Assessment: Compare the three approaches and determine advantages and disadvantages of the approaches- How would you use these approaches in design????
